ADMINISTRATIVE AND LEGAL MECHANISM FOR REGULATING ACCESS TO GENETIC RESOURCES AS AN ELEMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY SYSTEM

Access to genetic resources in the Republic of Belarus is provided by the National Coordination Centre on Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit-Sharing of the Institute of Genetics and Cytology, NAS of Belarus, in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Belarus “On Genetic Resources Management” and regulatory legal acts adopted for its implementation. The procedure includes the submission of an application form and a genetic resources transfer agreement, document review, approval of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus, issuance of an Internationally Recognized Certificate, transfer of genetic resources, and subsequent monitoring of their use. The implementation of this mechanism is aimed at ensuring control over the use of genetic resources, conservation of biological diversity, prevention of their illegal utilization and ensuring the environmental safety of the state.
