Checkpoint for monitoring the utilization of genetic resources of the Republic of Belarus

On February 26, 2019, the Republican Centre for the State Ecological Expertise and Advanced Training of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection will host the Workshop “Preservation of traditional knowledge and practices associated with genetic resources: strategies, tactics, key actors” organized under the International Technical Assistance UNDP-GEF Project “Strengthening of human resources, legal frameworks and institutional capacities to implement the Nagoya Protocol in the Republic of Belarus” of March 30, 2018 No. 2/18/000874.

The  workshop aims to address the practical issues related to the formation of an effective national policy of the Republic of Belarus on the identification, preservation and sustainable development of traditional knowledge and practices, including their holders (local communities, groups and related individuals), based on the analysis of current trends and successful international experience by introducing an integrative approach and through expanded communication with local communities in the framework of activities related to the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Nagoya Protocol to it, as well as the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The workshop will be attended by project experts, researchers in the field of natural science and humanities, representatives of the Ministry of Education, the Economic Institute under the Ministry of Economy, an expert on Sustainable Development Goals and the representatives of NGOs collaborating with local communities.
