Laws in the field of natural resources utilization and environmental protection ensure the legal regulation of activities carried out for the conservation of biological diversity and the sustainable use of its components.

The Law “On Genetic Resources Management” that entered into force on March 9, 2025, shall ensure the protection of rights of legal entities and individuals of the Republic of Belarus to research and development results in relation to the genetic and/or biochemical composition of genetic resources; the development, change and/or commercialization of products and materials based on or involving genetic resources that have been transferred outside the Republic of Belarus, the exercise of rights to such products and materials, the use of traditional knowledge associated with genetic resources and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from their utilization.  

On April 23, 2025, Elena Makeyeva, Head of the National Coordination Centre on Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit-Sharing (the Institute of Genetics and Cytology, NAS of Belarus), PhD in Biology, Associate Professor, informed the members of the Scientific Board of the Scientific and Practical Centre of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for Bioresources about the issues related to the legal basis for the state regulation in the field of genetic resources management.
