NATIONAL COORDINATION CENTRE ON ACCESS TO GENETIC RESOURCES AND BENEFIT-SHARING

Checkpoint for monitoring the utilization of genetic resources of the Republic of Belarus

The genetic material of three (3) Belarusian potato lines: SvSvl (tissue culture), SvSv2 (tissue culture) and IGC10/1.21 (tubers) developed at the Institute of Genetics and Cytology, NAS of Belarus was transferred to the Potato GeneBank of the US Department of Agriculture for research.

In line with the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from Their Utilization to the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Institute of Genetics and Cytology, NAS of Belarus and the Potato GeneBank of the US Department of Agriculture have concluded Mutually Agreed Terms for joint use of benefits arising from the utilization of genetic resources. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus, the Competent National Authority on access to genetic resources and benefit-sharing, has granted the Prior Informed Consent to the transfer of genetic resources and the permit to confirm compliance with the Nagoya Protocol requirements.
