Transfer of 50 birdlings of the aquatic warbler (Acrocephalus paludicola) to create a new population of this globally threatened species in the territory of Lithuania

Within the framework of the International Technical Assistance Project: LIFEMagniDucatusAcrola, LIFE15NAT/LT/001024 “Stepping stones towards ensuring long-term favourable conservation status of the aquatic warbler in Lithuania” of November 2, 2017 No. 2/17/000847 and in accordance with the Nagoya Protocol requirements, the Republic of Belarus has transferred 50 birdlings of the aquatic warbler (Acrocephalus paludicola) to create a new population of this globally threatened species in the territory of Lithuania.

Reporting Event of the UNDP-GEF International Technical Assistance Project in the Republic of Belarus, 31 July 2018

On 31 July 2018, a reporting event “National legislation on access to genetic resources and traditional knowledge associated with them. Liability measures for incompliance with the Nagoya Protocol provisions” under the UNDP-GEF International Technical Assistance Project “Strengthening of human resources, legal frameworks and institutional capacities to implement the Nagoya Protocol in the Republic of Belarus” of March 30, 2018 No. 2/18/000874 took place. The event was organized by the National Coordination Centre on Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit-sharing of the Institute of Genetics and Cytology, NAS of Belarus.

Transfer of Belarusian diploid potato lines to K.A. Timiryazev Institute of Plant Physiology of the Russian Academy of Sciences

The Institute of Genetics and Cytology, NAS of Belarus, has transferred the genetic material (tubers) of Belarusian diploid potato lines to the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution “K.A. Timiryazev Institute of Plant Physiology of the Russian Academy of Sciences” for non-commercial use (scientific research).

25th ANNIVERSARY OF THE CONVENTION ON BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY. PRESS RELEASE ON BELARUS.

In 2018, the Convention on Biological Diversity will celebrate 25 years since its entry into force. On 5 June1992, the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) was adopted and opened for signature. On 29 December 1993, the Convention entered into force. The 25th anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the Convention, to communicate to the world the importance of biodiversity, and also to urge strengthened efforts to achieve the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and related commitments including the Sustainable Development Goals. The Secretariat invites the Parties to the Convention to participate in the 25th anniversary by organizing and hosting local celebrations on 22 May 2018, the International Day for Biodiversity.
