On April 23, 2025, Elena Makeyeva, Head of the National Coordination Centre on Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit-Sharing (the Institute of Genetics and Cytology, NAS of Belarus), PhD in Biology, Associate Professor, informed the members of the Scientific Board of the Scientific and Practical Centre of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for Bioresources about the issues related to the legal basis for the state regulation in the field of genetic resources management.

The Law “On Genetic Resources Management” Came into Force

Today “The Law on Genetic Resources Management” of March 5, 2024, No. 356-3, came into force. The House of Representatives press service has informed BELTA about this.
On January 24, 2025, the Institute of Genetics and Cytology, NAS of Belarus, held the Roundtable event on the topic “The Law “On Genetic Resources Management”: Legal and Administrative Measures for its Implementation.”

Awareness-raising of foreign stakeholders of the legal regulation of access to the genetic resources of the Republic of Belarus
In connection with the adoption of the Law of the Republic of Belarus “On Genetic Resources Management” of March 5, 2024, No. 356-3, which defines the sovereign rights of the Republic of Belarus to its own genetic resources, the Head of the National Coordination Centre on Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit-Sharing (ABS NCC), Ms. Elena Makeyeva, raised awareness of the scientists and tutors of the Plant Breeding and Biotechnology Department of the Belarusian State Agricultural Academy, Gorki, Mogilev Region, of the legal regulation of access of foreign stakeholders to the genetic resources of our country and their utilization.
