Checkpoint for monitoring the utilization of genetic resources of the Republic of Belarus

On 23 October 2018, Minsk Hotel hosts a Reporting Event on the International Technical Assistance Project progress “Strengthening of human resources, legal frameworks and institutional capacities to implement the Nagoya Protocol in the Republic of Belarus” of March 30, 2018 No. 2/18/000874.

The meeting aims to discuss the issues related to the collection of information and protection of traditional knowledge associated with genetic resources. Reports of experts on traditional knowledge associated with genetic resources (an expert in folkloristics and an expert in linguistics), a legal  expert’s report with proposals for changes in national legal acts and possible measures to protect traditional knowledge and their holders are to be heard, as well as joint deliberations on emerging issues are to take place.

Beyond that, progress reports on the online database development to monitor the utilization of genetic resources and a new website version of the National Coordination Centre on Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit-Sharing are to be presented.
