The Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) or the Bonn Convention is an environmental treaty of the United Nations. CMS provides a global platform for the conservation and sustainable use of migratory animals and their habitats. It brings together the States through which migratory animals pass, the Range States, and lays the legal foundation for internationally coordinated conservation measures throughout a migratory range.
Signed in 1979 in Bonn, Germany, the Convention entered into force in 1983. As of September 2020, there are 131 Member States to the Convention. The depositary is the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany.
