From 24 to 29 February 2020, over 1000 delegates from more than 140 countries held at FAO headquarters, Rome, in the framework of the Open-ended Working Group the next phase negotiations on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework Development.
Based on the key take-aways of the 2nd Meeting of the Open-ended Working Group, which came to its crowning moment on Saturday, 29 February, the contact groups prepared detailed proposals covering all aspects of the draft Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. The documents prepared based on the event deliverables are available at the website of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
A special emphasis was placed on the fact that there is interdependence between biodiversity loss, climate change and the need to strengthen the synergy of Conventions to mitigate the effects of climate change and adapt to them, as well as combat desertification and land degradation for food security, human health and well-being.
